boon's log 1005.01: Pillars of faith

Pillars at the St. Peter's Square, Vatican City

Close up on one of the "pillars of faith"

These pillars have been tested through time. St Peter's Sq. was built between the years 1656 and 1667 (Bernini) - the construction spanning across a few years to complete and we have what we see today. And the pillars that supported the elliptical structure still stands strong today...

boon's log 0805.07: Triumph InThe Sky (cont.)

More observations as I watched further:
1. Rome and Florence are actually the same place. (err... actually, they are not)
2. Solar Airways is a village by itself, an ecosystem. Once you are in there, you can be sure that you, your wife, your children and your children's children (and so on and so forth) will be working for either Solar Airways or the Hong Kong International Airport. You'll not have a problem getting hitched. However, you will need to be prepared with the occasional "playing hard to get" syndrom
3. Solar Airways is built up of emotionally unstable employees (pilots, stewardess alike). Some even hallucinate...

boon's log 0805.07: Dopey Diaries: Month Six

Dopey's Six (months)

Time passes real fast and Dopey is already six months old. When we brought him home, the entire length of his body is less than a tile. And now he is almost 2 tiles in length (!!!). Well, though Dopey is older, but he stills like to chomp on stuffs like his toys, his bed, his towels, not forgetting our hands and fingers! We are trying to limit him (at least) to just the his toys and towel... we're trying...

Oh! And he just got rid of his puppy-teeth - one of them while attempting to tear my pair of jeans apart! Nevertheless, he is still as adorable as ever. Just that we cannot wait until he gets out of his teething months... :)

We just managed to teach him to roll. And now, after he knows that he gets his treats after rolling - whenever you eat in front of him, he goes ahead and roll without you even telling him to do so - meet Dopey, The Auto-Roll Dog! Ha! There are times when he does the Dopey Combo*.

*Dopey Combo = Left paw+Right paw+Sit+LieDown+Roll

Now, how can you resist to give him any treat at all, right? That's why my daddy-in-law spoils him with Bak Qwa (Barbequed Dried Pork), Kueh Kah Pek (Love letters biscuits), Nectarine, Mango... gosh! :) We are now trying to get him to learn how to fetch... he'll probably add that into the Dopey Combo... ha ha!

boon's log 0805.03: Triumph In The Sky

Anyone following this Cantonese series? Well, I somehow got sucked into watching it halfway - blame it on my father- and sister-in-law. :) I intercepted the series when the kiddos joined the pilot school in Australia and I followed on until now. A few things I observed while watching the series:

  1. Hong Kong-ers LOVE to go to Italy - especially Rome and Florence. Possibly due to cheap flights offered by Cathay Pacific (or Solar Airways...)
  2. How to get a girl to love you (even though you have tried almost all the tricks in the book but to no avail)? Get banged by a car driven by a friendly Australian and act macho about it - make sure you bleed, but not too much and make sure you do not die, of course.
  3. You can be sure that there are NO VISITORS/TOURISTS such as yourself at the Trevi Fountain, Rome. At anytime of the day, when you go there with the person that you love, you can be sure that you are the only ones there.
  4. Circus Maximus is just a leap away from St. Peter's Square.
  5. It is a normal practice in Rome to let your baby kid to play in the middle of a busy road.
  6. Road kill is normal because buses cannot see kids that are standing stationary in the middle of the road.

These are just my observations from the movie-lah. Well, having said all that, I still want to see how the movie ends - sigh, what the? - I wanna see what will become of the love triangleS. PLUS, I kinda like the sountrack...

boon's log 0805.02: Venetian Masks

Venetian Mask

Speaking of traffic in yesterday's blog, this morning while driving to work, I made the effort to count the number of traffic lights that I need to pass in order to get to work. There are a total of 18 traffic lights, 3 round-a-bouts and 1 under-pass. Such a small island, but check out the hurdles that we need to go through just to get to the office. While we were in Paris, we saw these little miniature traffic lights (cost cutting perhaps...)

Mini-lights

Anyway, Paris traffic is a totally different ball game, I tell you! No lines on the road, you just make up your own line. It's like DIY traffic! It is well-known in Paris (and also in Rome) that traffic lights are just a "suggestion". Boy, how do the traffic police cope with that (or do they even bother at all? or they be there whenan accident happens?). I guess in Paris, the most popular way of cummunication (next to speech and possibly hand motions) is the car-honk! However, after being there a few times, we've actually concluded that there are less road accidents as compared to what we find at home... interesting, ain't it?

boon's log 0805.01 Venetian reflections 3

Venice is truly a very beautiful town. Both IL and I really liked it a whole lot. We spent a full day in the town center itself (and we think that it is not enough). We liked the idea of the entire town being built on water with canals running everywhere. And the only traffic other than the ones created by the gondolas, are the human-traffic. Speaking of gondola traffic, there is even a speed limit for gondolas (well, it may be a norm over there, but I guess everyone who sees it for the first time, would be amazed by it...
