boon's log 0805.02: Venetian Masks

Venetian Mask

Speaking of traffic in yesterday's blog, this morning while driving to work, I made the effort to count the number of traffic lights that I need to pass in order to get to work. There are a total of 18 traffic lights, 3 round-a-bouts and 1 under-pass. Such a small island, but check out the hurdles that we need to go through just to get to the office. While we were in Paris, we saw these little miniature traffic lights (cost cutting perhaps...)

Mini-lights

Anyway, Paris traffic is a totally different ball game, I tell you! No lines on the road, you just make up your own line. It's like DIY traffic! It is well-known in Paris (and also in Rome) that traffic lights are just a "suggestion". Boy, how do the traffic police cope with that (or do they even bother at all? or they be there whenan accident happens?). I guess in Paris, the most popular way of cummunication (next to speech and possibly hand motions) is the car-honk! However, after being there a few times, we've actually concluded that there are less road accidents as compared to what we find at home... interesting, ain't it?

boon out...
