boon's log 1608.06: Tulips, The 18" take away, and Cheesecake

the weekend past was one of the rare 71degF ones that we've seen so far. It was so warm that we could afford to just hang outside with shorts and T-shirts. THAT was six days before, though. Today, it was a different story... when we stepped out of the grocery store, it started to snow! Yup, I'm sure it was somewhere below the mid 30's. WHat ever happened to Spring?! I think it is going to be one of those times when we skipped the entire spring and moved from winter into summer...

Anyway, we took advantage of the excellent weather and visited the tulip farms nearby, which is supposedly to be a popular attraction - even for he locals - which was why we were jammed up for 2 whole hours just getting from the freeway into the tulip farms (on a normal day, it would have probably taken us 15 minutes).

Here are some photos...

Tulip Farm - notice the "lost" little Yellow Tulip?

Then, sometime in the week, IL and I were just too busy to cook, so we ordered out. And, man, I gotta tell ya, this pizza was huge! A whole 18" of pepperoni, cheese and flour. It took us a little > 2 meals just to finish that pizza-saurus. That's us catching up with the US-take-out culture! ;)

And finally... after >2 years of absence, my beloved pastry master chef (cheesecake dept.) has returned. And in celebrating her return, she has baked her famous blueberry cheesecake. How was the cheesecake? It's simply amazing... IL has not lost her touch at all. And I am sure I am gaining weight already.... :P

boon's log 1408.07: Weekend updates: Shakers and Ribs

Well, it was yet another rainy weekend here in good ol' OR. Didn't do much, especially with Ab cathing a mild cold and a cough. So, it was mostly indoors and then grocery shopping again. A R&R weekend, Ab even took a 2.5hours nap on Sunday (!!!), and so did her parents... ;)

Well, since we were in doors, I thought I'd spend some time making her a toy - yeah, you read right, making her a "toy". It's amazing how something so simple can keep the dad busy (in the process of making it) and also the end result was quite awarding...

First you start of with
1. Mineral Water bottle, preferably a small one
2. Some crayons you get from your local diner (Applebees, Chevy's...)
3. Scotch tape

Directions:
1. Remove the label from the mineral water bottle
2. dice up the crayons - you can categorize them by color, but i chose to mix them up together.
3. fill up the bottle with the cut-up crayons
4. cover the bottle and seal it with scotch tape.

And the result? A happy kid... well, if you do not mind the noise, that is. :)

And for dinner, I cooked up some Chinese braised spare ribs... that got me a smile of approval from IL. :)

'twas a pleasant weekend. Hope yours was okay.
