boon's log 3105.03: A Hummer Wedding...

We were drinving around Sacramento last weekend and we bumped into this awesome wedding car. We've seen these dream toys over on Discovery Travel and Adventure's Indulgence (or something like that) before and now we were looking at the real thing... It really beats the wedding cars that we have back home. Funny that it was not decorated as much as we do at home, thought. Anyway, something to feast our eyes on... (and envy, perhaps? :P)

boon's log 3105.02: 1/2 Blood Prince (delayed entry)

Here's my Harry Potter entry - 10 days after it's official release.

On our way out from Singapore (we departed on the same day that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince got released - 07/16/05) and we saw the book on the front shelves of Times Bookstore in the airport. We heard through the news about the people camping outside bookstores and the lines and queues of people waiting to get the latest installation of the Harry Potter saga - and there was no line at Times Changi (!!!) and the book was for S$45.10 - from what we heard from Q, we thought that it was kinda close to what he is paying (and SOMEONE mentioned that books in the US are historically more expensive than that found in Malaysia/Singapore) so we decided to get it. And it came with a surprisingly nice paperbag (pic below).

When we reach California, guess what we saw? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince selling at USD$17.99 - that would be about RM68... Sigh... that is the price you have to pay for joining the rest of the folks in muggle world in getting the book on the release day compared to getting it 1-2 days later. Like what Q mentioned, it will get cheaper as the the weeks go by... Anyway, it got quite some people's attention (e.g. the custom officers...)

Anyway read some reviews in the dailies over here and so far, it's been pretty good feedbacks and reviews.

boon's log 3105.01(supplementary A): Serenity

Serenity

As IL and I will be away from home for quite sometime, besides being homesick, we are really missing Dopey also. Not sure whether he is eating well, sleeping well, and that his daily routine needs to be changed - i.e. waiting for us at the door as we return from work at around 6-7PM everyday. We (IL especially) are really looking forward to going back to see him. When we called home, we learned that he dashed out of the door and into the streets when he heard my car (my father-in-law was warming up my car for me)... sigh. Poor little fella... waitaminute... Poor us(too)!!!

boon's log 3105.01: Random Pics from KL

Here are some random pictures that we took while we were down in Kuala Lumpur for our Visa interview...

NY in KL

Caffeine City. This city is flooded with coffeeshops. Really!

Impressive but still room for improvement. We were complaining about having to walk under the sun from one monorail line to another...

boon's log 2905.04: Without a Nipple (U)

IL and I were at one of the fairly newly opened café down in Pulau Tikus last weekend. Apparently, it is opened by a Hong Kong Star - not sure how true is that, but you will be entertained by just going through the menu. We were like, "What the... ?"

Check this out...

Choking Hazard: Contains Small Parts. Not for Children Taking

The food at Ice Ice Baby was so-so. However, not really worth the bucks.

boon's log 2805.02: The Correct Way to Hold a Packet of McDonald's French Fries

It must have been the joke of the day. IL and I were having lunch at the McD's in Sungai Dua. We seldom go there (because of the parking problems there...) but we were there yesterday because we had to go to the RHB bank near our office, so we decided to makan there. Anyway, she ordered their Grilled Chicken Foldover while I ordered their McChicken McValue Meal (Large)... LARGE (!!!) - the one that comes with a large soda and large fries...

IL went to look for a seat while I paid and collected our lunch. This is what the Large fries looks like at Sungai Dua McDonald's. (Compare it with the picture featured in their Malaysian website [www.mcdonalds.com.my ])

French Fries Connection

So, IL suggested that I go back to the counter and asked them to refill the pack of fries. So I trotted back to the counter and one of the two managers attended to me. So I asked her why is my packet of fries so little compared to the one in the photo on their poster.

Know what the manager said to me?

"Sir, you are not supposed to hold the packet of French Fries on the sides, you are supposed to hold it on the front and back..." well, these were not exactly her words, but I re-phrased it a little to convey the message... She even showed me how to hold my darn packet of French Fries!

The correct way to hold a packet of French Fries

I should provide this courtesy image to the McDonald's Sungai Dua so that people will know the correct way to hold a packet of french fries... with a tagline...

"It's the way you hold it, not the way we pack it!"

IL was even suggesting that we hold it upside down - that way, it is so full that it is actually over-flowing.

Overflowing...

Anyway, she repacked my Fries for me, but it still remained the same... perhaps I was holding it wrong again... I guess I've gotta learn to hold it the right way...
