boon's log 0806.02: President's Day '06

Initially, the group planned to drive down to Sin City for the long holiday weekend. But as fast as the plan went to the drawing board and sent out through email by our trusty self-unwilling-secretary, YY, the plan went to the dumps with people pulling back from the trip. I did not want to waste the nice weather-ed holiday weekend (though Saturday was a little cloudy/rainy), decided to go somewhere. Anyway, on Saturday, we went on and did something that we can do be it rain or shine (nope, not sleeping...) - shopping.

Sunday was Church, grocery and then a little work... Oh by the way, the message last Sunday was rather interesting - talking about not using the Lord's name in vain. So many times we get into the habit having phrases like "God Dammit" and "Oh, my God!" slip out of our mouths - among others, where the local Americans uses God's name together with other swearing words. It's like a little reminder to many of us when we've been Christians for so long and have really forgotten about these basic stuffs. His bottome line was when invoking His name not in the context of praising Him - don't.

Anyway...

On President's Day itself, I pulled DM along (since the rest either did not feel well or had their own plans) we did a road trip down to Mystery Point and then on to Monterey Bay. It was quite a trip, and nice scenic drive too. Loads of pictures no time to go through all of them yet. Just managed to do up a picture postcard with my car, though... Will post-process and upload more pictures later (when time permits).

We did not manage to do the Monterey-Bay-famous 17-Mile Drive, but we did manage to do the ~10-Mile drive before the 17-Mile drive which was very good and scenic! Just this pre-17-mile drive alone kept us busy already. We stopped almost every few minutes just getting down of the car to snap photos. This pre-17-Mile is free while you will have to pay $8.75 to do the 17-Mile drive - We'll be back, I guess. DM said that he's gonna upgrade his camera and then we'll need to go back to Monterey Bay again... we'll see... :)

We completed the day with a nice (but price-y) authentic Malaysian Meal of Roti Canai, Chicken Rendang and Belacan KangKung and washed them down with typical kopitiam coffee... at the Banana Leaf Restaurant at Milpitas. After a long day running around taking pictures and all that, trust me - it was like we died and went to heaven!

It was a tiring but fulfilling day and when i reached home, it was almost 11:30PM and i had to jump into a conference meeting and then worked until 4AM this morning... urgh... yawn.

more pictures coming up...

boon out...

Dude, the 17-mile Drive isn't worth the money; just a bunch of of rich peep's houses. Go round Lover's Point on to Carmel instead. And don't miss Big Sur if you're continuing further south. Hint: off-road to Pfeiffer Beach. Ask ranger(s) for "secret" entrance.

yeah, zoom zoom is really a good car. great road holding and powerful. we did about 110mph last Tuesday on our way down to LA and it took it pretty well (with room to spare; we didn't dare to push it too far out) and we did not feel a thing.
